Sentence Structure
Sentence structure (syntax), tells us the ‘right’ order to put words in to a message to be understood by others. The can include your child knowing how to use clauses (sentence parts) and conjunctions (‘and’ & ‘but’ can join up parts) to build a sentence. Knowing about different types of sentences, like facts or questions can also help. Check out the free links below for more details.
Desert decisions allow children to learn all about sentence construction in a fun environment! This deck has 10 photos where kids are asked to find the subject ('who?') and verb ('what doing?'), and then form a complete sentence. A child will quickly master SV sentence building using desert decisions!
Animal Antics leaps headlong into the exciting world of sentence building and syntax. Kids are given a scrambled sentence, which they then need to think about and make two messages using only the words available. Each sentence has the first word (or words) placed to get them started. This deck contains active, passive and negative sentences for increased replayability. Students will have lots of fun learning the ins and outs of syntax and sentence building with Animal Antics.
